Slack rotation apps compared: Pagerly, Rotation App, RosterBird and Dutyroll
Looking for an alternative to Rotation App or Pagerly, or just picking your first rotation app for Slack? This page puts the apps that show up when you search Slack's Marketplace for "rotation" side by side: price, free tier, and whether you pay per user, per team or per workspace. Every price below is from the vendor's own page or Slack Marketplace listing, read on 1 November 2026. Dutyroll is our product, so read this as a vendor's comparison and check each page before you buy.
Add to Slack Free for one rotation. Pro is $9/month per workspace.

Our arithmetic from the list prices above, monthly billing, no paging add-on. How many Pagerly "teams" you need depends on how you group rotations, so we show the range.
Which one fits
- You need paging (calls, SMS) or PagerDuty/Opsgenie schedules in Slack: Pagerly. Dutyroll does not page anyone.
- You need absences synced from a calendar, holiday calendars or several people per shift: RosterBird or Rotation App, which list out-of-office and calendar features. Dutyroll has away dates you enter per person (free on both plans; the hand-over skips that person), one person per shift and no calendar sync.
- You need an @oncall user group that follows the rotation: Pagerly, Rotation App and RosterBird all list Slack user groups; Dutyroll does not have this yet.
- You need a visible "who is on duty" post for one or more duties, and a price that does not grow with headcount: that is what Dutyroll is for. Free for one rotation with any number of people; $9/month per workspace for unlimited rotations.
Dutyroll as an alternative to Rotation App or Pagerly
Teams usually look for an alternative when the bill moves: Rotation App's free plan stops at 5 active users, and Pagerly starts at $19 per team. Dutyroll's free plan has no user cap, and Pro is one flat price per workspace. The trade: Dutyroll does less. It posts who is on duty and who is next, weekly, every weekday, every 2 weeks or monthly, with Skip and Swap with next buttons; no paging, no calendar sync, no user groups yet.
[Skip] [Swap with next]
Set it up in two minutes
- Add Dutyroll to Slack (the workspace admin may need to approve it).
- In the channel where the hand-over should appear, type
/dutyroll new. - Fill in the form: the duty's name, the people in order, the channel, weekly (pick the day), every weekday, every 2 weeks or monthly (pick the day of the month or the last Friday, say), and the time. The time is in your Slack time zone.
- Dutyroll posts an announcement now, and the hand-over at the time you chose: who is on duty and who is next, with Skip and Swap with next buttons.
What Dutyroll does not do
- It does not page or call anyone and has no escalation; it posts a message in a channel. If you need phone or SMS alerts, use a paging tool and keep Dutyroll (or not) for the visible weekly hand-over.
- It does not sync with PagerDuty, Opsgenie or calendars, and does not update a Slack user group (@oncall) yet.
- Cadences are weekly (one day), every weekday (Mon-Fri), every 2 weeks or monthly (a day of the month, or the last Friday, say, of it). No custom shift lengths. Away dates are entered in Dutyroll (Mark away, and the hand-over skips that person); there is no calendar or HR-tool sync.
- It is new (October 2026) and not yet in the Slack Marketplace; you install it from this site.
